Pillow Talk and Christmas

posted on

I’m in the BEST mood! I’m so happy to be off work until the new year and look forward to all that I’ll accomplish during these weeks. All the stress has left my body and my brain is getting retrained to do WHAT I WANT… not what someone else wants me to do. It really is “the most wonderful time of the year” (giggling). They’ll be more posts than usual and probably annoying at times… but remember…. I HAVE way more time on my hands. My “wordy” new pillow arrived a few days ago. ….

Good finds & pretty things

The kitchen is pretty much done and my brain and body had a few days of rest… which led me right back where I need to be. Enjoying all that I have and I that we have done. I’m blessed! The approaching holidays are always good for us, as we both have almost 3 weeks off work and our creative juices kick into overdrive. It’s such a fun time for both of us. I’ll be posting lots of handmade projects over the next few weeks.

Today was about taking time to enjoy the house and some of the simple things around ….

It’s June and the heat has kicked in … just in time for Richie to get back to work on the house. (poor thing!) Every year it takes a few days to adjust to a new way of living and working. Going from educator to carpenter, welder, electrician, plumber, and all around handy guy in the 100 degree weather takes some adjusting. We’ll start out easy and work into it. So until he/we really get going on some renovation projects lets talk about some good “stuff” we found this past weekend.
Check out this really cool Andy Warhol bag that ….

cement is a ball

Yes, we enjoy our yard… and we love to put all kinds of things out in our landscape (besides plants). We’ve seen these concrete garden balls in different places throughout the years and always intended to make some. Finally with a little more spare time than usual… we got the concrete and went for it. After collecting some old glass shades that were picked up at garage sales or given to us (thanks, John F.) they got a nice thin coat of cooking oil rubbed on the insides.  We mixed the concrete and began scooping it in the 3 glass ….

Color, texture, and pattern

Another Friday. Hard to believe. The weeks come and go so quickly, but my search for inspiration is constant. I realize the things we see everyday inspire us in some way, and the internet has definitely helped most of us who are obsessed with beautiful things and search them out. For the past few months I have been lusting over all the products from Marimekko, as they create the most wonderful modern designs.  I’m so drawn to them. Their fabrics are so simple and beautiful.  Nothing changes a space like fabric, texture and color.  The graphics definitely inspired ….

Whatchamadoodle

Well, I don’t know what you call it, but I think it’s pretty fun. This weeks estate sale find that just was too unique to pass up. Yes, we have a thing for wind chimes, spinners, hanging sculptures, twirly whirlies, and whatchamadoodles. They’re hanging everywhere around the house and we can’t seem to resist them, especially for $1.00.  Another good find.
Seeing all those little sticks makes me want to do a fun project that I’ve had in my head for a while.  Can you say “Sunburst”.  More about that later…..

This weeks estate sale finds were SWEET and unexpected. It’s not often that you find really nice art books but here are a few we happily added to our collection:
Jean Michel Basquiat – Basquiat Drawings
Willem de Kooning
Picasso and Photography
and Art From Found Materials

I believe this Basquiat book below (WE LOVE HIS WORK!) is out of print.  This is our second copy and I’ve seen them go for between $150 – $300.

ANOTHER FIND:
I have a love for jewelry and I make a lot of mine, but silver jewelry is my ….
