This weeks finds

I’ve been a little too quiet this week…sorry. My “real job” is sucking the life out of me and taking me away from the fun stuff I enjoy. I always try to make time for the fun stuff, rest assured! So I thought I’d do a quick little update on some cool things Richie found this week. He always manages to come home with something, even if it’s small enough to fit in his hand… there’s always a little something.

Richie has many talents. One of course is renovation, the other is his musical abilities, another is his annoying ability to make so much sense that I feel like an idiot, and another thing (among many) would be his artistic and creative abilities. He loves to carve wood and often takes breaks between projects to sit, drink a cup of coffee, and carve something fabulous.  Here’s the last thing he carved and painted….

He also loves to find and buy little carved pieces during his hunts.  This week he brought home several fun little wood pieces to add to our collection and I think he made a new “friend” in the process. (Richie can become friends with ANYBODY!) Turns out the little old guy who carved these was more than pleased to sit and chat about every piece. What fun!

We have a cowboy boot, a thumb, a dinosaur, a super cool ball and cage whimsey with chain (all a single carved piece) and a strange little man wearing a barrel that is about to show us all a “wittle” surprise.

Well, hello there… I think you lost your barrel… and it looks like you have a little woody! (sorry, I couldn’t resist that one) Isn’t that GREAT!  The little barrel slides up and the rest is “left hangin'”.  There are some things in life that you should NEVER pass up and this is one of them.  TOO MUCH. LOL!

This ball cage and chain below is also another keeper, as it’s carved from one single piece.  There are no two pieces that connect to each other.  Talk about timing consuming and difficult.  Love it.

Here’s a close up of the boot and thumb. They’re both great but that boot looks so much like the real thing it’s crazy.  I can’t even imagine carving that so perfect and it’s pretty small which only makes it more difficult.

He also found this amazing vintage Magnavox Horn Speaker.  He’s had his eye on these on E-Bay for years now and has yet to break down and buy one.  This was dirt cheap so he snagged it.  We may just use it as decor or for it’s intended purpose.

One last thing he found was just for me.  He’s so thoughtful and he comes home with little treats for me all the time.  The funny thing is that I’ve been wanting this particular “treat” for a while now and he never even knew it.  Or maybe he’s been reading my mind.  I told you he was insightful!  A vintage brass letter sealer with an “S” on it.. for Stacey.

So I made a card for a friend and stamped the handmade envelope with a stamp I recently carved and sealed that little baby up with my new brass sealer.  He’s so SWEET!

Hand Carved Stamp

This was my first attempt to carve a stamp.  I’ve never done it… but always wanted to so last week I bought a lino pad/block and went for it.  Not too bad. It was fun.  It prints good on fabric too.

So… lots of good finds, and a super lengthy post to make me feel good again…. complete with pictures and little wee wee men.  :-0  OH MY!  I’m still giggling at that cutie.

Hope you had a good week.  The windows outside the bedroom are lookin’ good and my new black and white rug from Crate and Barrel arrives Saturday.  I love getting deliveries!

      Meghan,
Hey and thanks so much. That is super cool of you. I love your blog as well. And your kitchen turned out AMAZING. I found that a new kitchen totally changed my day to day life. I’m sure it will do the same for you. Congrats. Blogging is so much fun and there are so many wonderful, supportive people out there sharing and do their thing. Thanks for thinking of us.

You’re welcome :) And you’re right about a new kitchen… although ours is tiny, I still love it. Since we designed it, its functional for our use and because of that, we enjoy using it.
