Estate Sale Finds – Part 2

posted on

I can’t really remember the last time I “shopped”. Unless it’s for groceries or something from the fabric/craft store I’m really not that great of a consumer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for lovely things but just don’t like the idea of having the same things that every neighbor on my street has. Having unique items… collected items… whether they be clothing, home decor, or just little metal pieces of junk are much more exciting to me. Richie feels the same way. So naturally estate sales are part of our life and have been for YEARS. Richie does most of the estate “sailing” usually because if we both go then work on the house isn’t getting done. He loves it so much and is willing to get up at the crack of dawn so the fun is usually his.

We do however decided on what stays or goes, together. It’s a joint effort and it’s just plain fun! Some weeks we have nothing to share and others we do really well. So here’s part 2 of our finds for the week.

Pocket-Roulette: “The New Fascinating Game”

When this little sweetie showed up I just squealed. Not only is the little pocket roulette wheel cool.. .but the tiny little ball was still with it. You would think that little sucker would have rolled away never to be found again. But for me, the torn and tattered black box and the paper instructions with the beautiful patina and type just tickle my fancy. Okay, I might be weird but this was by far one of my favorite finds.

Next up…. old 45 record boxes. WOW, did this bring back memories. I had several of these when I was younger and we use to bring our records to the skating rink and they’d play them while we skated for hours with our friends. It was a blast. Do kids do stuff like that anymore? I guess they “plug in their ipods or smart phones”. Kinda sad, in a way… cuz they won’t have the ipod or iphone in 30 years emitting an “old” smell with a touch of yellowing from years gone by to remember the fun. But maybe I’m just an old lady who’s being nostalgic.

I don’t think Richie thought I’d care too much about these but I went nuts. They were already in amazing shape but I carefully cleaned the gunk left behind from the previous owner and they are ready for whatever I choose to store in them. The swirls are groovy. I can dig it.

One more item, that has Richie all a flutter. He proudly unloaded this shoe shine kit/box/station from his truck with a grin on his face and held it up to show me like a kid in a candy store. Richie is a boot man. LOVE BOOTS. Winter, summer, doesn’t matter. He loves his boots and has a nice collection of vintage boots. Taking care of them is something he enjoys just as much as wearing them so this find was a winner.

I love the smell of polish when he’s got all his boots out. It will be put to good use.

So yes, it was a really great week and I can’t wait to see what we find next. We did also find one of those old Chuck Wagon Dinner Bells with a striker. You know the ones that are triangular. It’s pretty old, rusty and cool but I never took a picture of it. I should hand it up and use it to call him to dinner. (yes, he’s that spoiled!) Or maybe we could use it to find each other in this house. It’s not a huge house it’s just L – O – N – G and he’s usually on one end of the house and I’m on another. We’re always screaming “where are you”? (laughing)

We’ll be trying to wrap up our master bedroom closet project this weekend. The weather is suppose to be really nice. I’ll be working on sheetrock, and paint and he’ll be trimming out everything and hanging the clothes bars. I’m living out of boxes and I’m ready to be done with that.

That little roulette game is something I would have snapped up… not sure what to do with it but must have it and give it a good home. I’m like that with vintage clothes, too – it’s like I’m afraid someone else won’t give them the love they deserve.

Oh I just love that little baby! Even the dang box was cool. I think it would good in a glass dome or on display somewhere. Need to work on that. Don’t get me started on vintage clothes. My husband is a FREAK and buys them like crazy (most don’t even fit him). I have to do a post on that because it’s insane. I totally get it though. We do love the old stuff! Hey.. thanks so much for looking!
