Come Sail Away

This week we’ve been jumping from one thing to the next (yes, short attention span strikes again!). That’s okay. When everything has to be done, anything getting done is good! Richie was determined to hang up our Coolaroo shade sail that we bought right after we moved in. We love being outside and have such a nice back porch but we desperately needed to have some shade.

After getting all the “stuff” out of the box it was obvious that is was going to be a little bit more work than we expected, only because we really don’t have siding to attach it to, just beams and windows. So Richie went to work attaching 2X4’s between two sections of the roof beams so we could hang the sail anywhere along the back. Thanks to Greg Landry for helping Richie get those boards attached. A second pair of hands makes everything go so much faster.

Here you can see how the board looks from the porch.  It’ll all look so good when I get out there to stain the wood.

Two sides attach to the house and the third goes out to a pole that Richie and his dad cemented in the ground. The great thing about what they did was to set a sleeve in the concrete so the actual pole could be removed when the shade is down. That way I don’t have a pole just sticking up in the yard for no reason. Great work, you little smarties!

Once we got everything situated, Richie painted the pole a nice gray color and attached all the necessary hardware to the pole and the house.
He and his dad worked to get holes drilled and everything spaced out correctly.

Now that it’s up we are starting to think that we’ll probably buy another one that is a “right triangle” and attach it right next to the other one. That will cover more area and give more shade. The layered look is really nice but for now, we’re good, and we’ll think about that one. One more thing off the list…. ready to enjoy!
