Exterior Work – Carport

posted on
The exterior work continues and the heat has been pretty brutal. Luckily Richie is working under the carport this week.

We have a nice drive through car port at the front of the house and have done plenty of work to this area.  (It’s hard to tell… but we really have.  It just happens in small steps)

We’re back to pick up where we left off and get the roof beams all capped and lookin’ good.  There are five beams total.  Richie went to work measuring, cutting, and securing caps to seal up the bottoms and ends of each beam.  He’s done this around the entire house but this is the last part of the project.

Each “beam” is actually two beams together. Some of them have a middle support where needed and others don’t.  The caps keep everything looking finished and consistent.

Richie had to clean out each beam because the wasps were making homes in every beam.  They were full of little creatures.  NO MORE!  Take that you stinging little pests!

You can see here how much better it’s all going to look as they get capped. Once I putty the joints and stain the wood it will look so incredible.  I’m excited to get out there.Richie does the wood work and I make it pretty.  We’re a good team! You can see the raw wood on the ceiling is from where we had to patch the hole in the roof from the tree that was growing through it.

A little bit more…..

Richie was able to finish up the beams he was working on in the back of the house yesterday. (see those pictures).  Everything is now secure and the patched beams are bolted together and ready for me to make them look pretty.  Good job, Richie!  This house loves you. (me too)
