a new direction

posted on

Let me start by saying I have no idea which way to go… but I AM GOING and it may be in every direction! I’m GOING to do whatever I choose without second guessing, without hesitation, without worry.
I can. I will.

I have been blogging since May 2011 and up until about 10 days ago I was ready to call it quits. Here’s the thing… I’m tired. (insert a quick nap… HERE)

Although Richie and I have not done that much on the house lately I have to remind myself that most of the back-breaking, tear-producing, messy, scary, OH MY GOD ….

The Concert Gods Have Heard our Cries!

posted on

Sometimes it seems that nothing exciting is happening in your life.  Know what I mean?  It’s a series of days and weeks that consist of work, dinner, laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning, bathing, sleep… and starting all over.   Good God I’m sick of it!   And yes, you guessed it, no TIME for any renovation projects.   (more on that in an upcoming post!)

I was getting so pumped up about the approaching Morrissey concert in December only to get an email that his mother had taken ill and he would be postponing the tour.  Ahhh DAMN!  I can’t say ….

A new Townie

I own an exercise bike… well, it’s called a Spinner. Some of you may know what that is or have seen them in health clubs. They’re super fun and they kick your butt in the work out department. Which Lord knows I need! (you know… some butt kicking) When times are stressful there’s nothing like 45 minutes of good heart-pumping exercise. It definitely helps me physically and mentally. I love my spinner… but sometimes you just need to get outside and be a human being. To take in the scenery, breathe the air, hear the sounds, run from strange dogs ….

“They say it’s your birthday…..

posted on

…it’s my birthday too”.
It’s “stamped” and official – I’m 44 today.
Unfortunately I have to work on my birthday. We’re fundraising at the station and I’m “on the air”. My birthday almost always falls during fundraisers so I get lots of calls from listeners and that makes it fun!

Since I’m a music fanatic and I’m constantly listening to music every waking hour of the day… I thought I’d do a birthday music playlist. Just a few artists I like… Enjoy!

The Sugarcubes – Birthday

Kings of Leon – Birthday

The Beatles – Birthday

The Smiths – Unhappy Birthday ….

LIFE IS CRAZY… I’m sure you’ll agree.  I keep waiting for this blog to just write itself… but that never happens!  After receiving an email from another blogger I adore… who said “hey, woman… post something …. post ANYTHING!”, I figured I should do SOMETHING, and it really didn’t matter that I haven’t been able to accomplish much around the house.  It’s not that I’ve been jumping out of balloons in space and breaking the sound barrier, or getting 10’s on Dancing with the Stars, or even moderating Presidential debates…. (although someone from Washington, D.C. in the Executive Office Of ….

Parallel Bar – Our Knoll Sofa

posted on

Well hello!  I’m Stacey, it’s nice to be here.  Glad you came to visit… I almost forgot I even had a blog it’s been so long since I put my hands on the keyboard or unloaded my camera pics.  Ah, life… it’s good… it’s busy and it’s been whipping my butt!  Speaking of butt… I thought I’d do a post on one of my favorite spots to park mine.  Our Knoll sofa.

Thanks to the many visitors/friends I’ve made over the last 2 years, I get lots of emails and comments about not only our home and the renovation, but ….

Little Prick!

posted on

I would love to say that I’ve been so busy with all these fantastic projects that I haven’t had time to post anything … but the real truth is so BORING!  With much hesitation I decided to just go with boring and at least feel good about what’s real around here.  I’ve been PRICKED!

A few weeks ago while out re-potting and planting in the back yard I decided to give one of my cactus a new pot, as he was growing so well that he deserved more room.  I put my gardening gloves on to get to work and while ….

Nice Legs!

posted on

When something doesn’t go the way you planned… just put some hair-pin legs on it… and everything is alright! Nothing beats a nice pair of legs, right? Long, short, skinny, thick… metal, wood, or concrete…. there are so many kinds to love. Of course I’m talking about furniture and particularly the little tables we planned for our bed side.

These pretty legs arrived a week ago after I realized the little “box” tables that Richie built for our last platform bed would not work in our new master bedroom. The tables are suppose to hang and “float” on the wall but ….

Architectural Pottery

posted on

It’s hard for me to envision a modern space without plants. When I think of the designs of famous architects like Neutra or Eichler, or modern day architects like Austin based Lake and Flato, it’s impossible to imagine these spaces without the beauty of architectural pottery.  Their simple, modern, clean lines, unspoiled by fluff or distractions make each plant that resides in them a little more spectacular.  An ornate or colorful pot just doesn’t seem to fit in a modern home.  These fit, these work, and it’s why I am so proud to have not one but three pieces of ….

Lit Up!

posted on

Just a quick post as I’ve been working … or rather “piddling” around the house… not really accomplishing too much. With school about to start it’s been pretty crazy for Richie as he switches gears from carpenter, painter, bed builder, and all around worker to “teacher”. It’s a bit of whiplash, but he accomplished a lot during the summer!

Work on the bedroom has been slow, as we’ve had to turn our attention to other things. When you’re working on a renovation and focused on getting things done, you tend to ignore things… so I had to address the “other” stuff. ….

Closet Doors

posted on

As August pushes it’s way through..(way too quickly)…I’m trying to wrap up projects like the bedroom closet. When we rebuilt the closet I left the doors as they were with the intention to refinish them. It was the last major project on my master bedroom list. Glad to say they’re finally finished. Wheewwww!!!!

The first order of business was to order up the special laminated shoji screen paper and tape required.  These special papers are amazing because they’re very thick and then they’re laminated to keep them clean, strong, and very easy to work with.

As usual this project has taken on ….

Not really what this blog is about… and yet it’s everything!
There would be no blog, no house, no life like ours, if we didn’t have each other.
After 22 years… I’m glad you didn’t throw me under the bus!

Happy Anniversary!  xox

King Sized!

posted on

After lots of work and a failed attempt at making our king sized platform bed for the master bedroom I’m happy to say “roll over and stay on your side”….. IT’S DONE!  Well, almost… I still need a mattress (minor detail).

Poor Richie… check out the sweat drip coming off his nose in the 100 degree weather. Wonderful husband!!

Boy does it feel good to say “it’s done”.   I know Richie just about had a heart attack when I told him I wasn’t happy with our first attempt at making this bed.  If you read a recent post that we ….

Leftovers

posted on

I love leftovers! Yes, not having to cook is always a good thing at our busy house… but I’m actually talking about grass! I know… that doesn’t help much and now you might be completely confused. While we are currently working on some pretty big projects there are always small things that sneak in between and sometimes I stop and realize those small things are the tiny wins that get us that much closer to the vision in our heads of how this house will “someday” be.

Back yard of our old house. I couldn’t find one of the front ….

Mural Artist: Robert Madden

posted on

I get asked a lot of questions about our house and the amazing mural that spans almost the entire length of the living/den area. It’s one of those features that is impossible to miss! After my last post I realized that most of my followers did NOT know this was actually a media cabinet that housed books, cds, magazines, the TV and stereo, etc.

The artist who painted this mural is Robert Madden. Robert and his wife Bonnie paid us a visit this past weekend and brought over Frank and Nancy, another lovely couple who wanted to see the ….
