A Good Distraction

posted on
It was a busy weekend for us as we move from one project to the next… but more on that later. For this post I want to share something that definitely distracted us from our “oh so important” work. One of my very first posts on this blog was about a bird nest we found in a tree and some really sweet pictures of the babies before they left the nest. Well, I had no idea that birds used the same nest again.. but these little Robins must have worked on their house as hard as we’ve been working on ours and just couldn’t give it up. Not long after the baby birds left, we found little blue eggs in the nest. (Here we go again. How exciting!) This time I took photos of it all. I have a real love for birds and these little guys grew so fast!

One of the eggs had already hatched when I discovered it.

It appeared that there were three birds but it may have just been two.  They just look like little fleshy blobs so I couldn’t tell.  From the look here.. they’re pretty hot and tired.
(poor little babies!)

Here’s where we get distracted!  I’m working on sheetrock inside and Richie comes in screaming about the baby bird who fell out of the nest.  This was the second one that fell.  I have to assume they were trying to fly and didn’t get too far.  (laughing)  They got wings and feathers so fast I could hardly believe it!

I want nature to take it’s course but honestly I was worried that a large bird (hawk) or something else might get the little guy and I couldn’t just leave him there.  So what would you do?  Of course you would….

I put on a pair of gloves and picked that little baby up and put him back in his nest.
When I reached down to get him he just opened his little beak and chirped at me like I was there to give him dinner.  It was too much!  So cute.

A bird in the hand is worth ….. What?   Two in a bush, for sure.   Good luck little baby.
Back in your nest you go.

His mother was yelling at me.  She was waiting for me to put him down, as she sat up in the tree above with a nice juicy worm for him.  She was such a good mommy.  I watched her work so hard over the days to feed them and protect them.

I’m thinking about taking the nest down… I don’t think I can take raising another family and watching them leave.  I’m having “empty nest syndrome”.  (laughing)

Okay, now you see… it was a distraction.  A welcome and fun one. Sunday morning the nest was empty and all the babies were gone.
Now back to sheetrock work ……….
