In the beginning.. there was green peg board for the ceiling, no lights in the hall, dark paneling, old stained carpeting, and screen doors on the laundry space that would make you cry. (and I did!) The first day we ripped out the glued down carpet in the hallway. The first of many steps to fix this space. Hallway FRIGHT! - This little 8 foot section of the house in the hallway almost gave my mortgage co. a heart attack. This is exactly how it looked the day we bought the house. It was never finished by the owner and was a transition area from the house to his office. The mortgage co. had no idea what to think of this but of course we knew it was no big deal and would be fixed in a weekend. Thank goodness they trusted us! Seriously, we almost lost the house because of THIS. How stupid, right?! the green peg board comes down and the electricians begin to run new wire to the rooms of the house.. all through this channel. I had only an Hallway - Laundry Door. A before of the laundry area. We removed the old built-in's that were falling apart and made room for our front loaders. The Goode's had a small stackable, which wouldn't work for us. Here's a close up of the old laundry doors. They were in such bad shape. Before we had a regular hot water heater and that red thing the arrow is pointing to is an actual BOILER for cryin' out loud. Yes, this house had a massive boiler. It was the first thing to go! The old water heater tank was taken out and my new tankless heater went in. I will never go back to a tank, this delivers endless hot water and we are so happy with it. It's so small too. The old nasty paper came off. It made me itch for days. It was that old fiberglass paper. Now it's just a skeleton. Can't wait to fix this space up. For now we'll just hide it behind these doors. A job for later. I had to order paper from Kona Hawaii for all the screen doors in the house. What an improvement. another view after those light and ceiling panels were installed. Richie worked his ass of on these. I came up with the idea and ordered the lights and he made it happen. Each piece was measured, cut, and each light wired to the other all the way down the hall. He amazes me. A view of the hall after we spent days cutting and fitting together the ceiling panels that hide all the electrical, duct work, cable, telephone, and other services in the house. Each panel must be able to move to access everything. The pot lights were the answer I came up with when it came to lighting that we could move if needed. I think it worked! An Another I finally painted the small brick wall in the hallway. It looks much better and now matches the painted brick in the kitchen around the corner.
