After the tree was cut and the massive amounts of “mulch” was removed you could see all the rocks that had to be pulled up for the stump grinder to get in there.

BEFORE. The court yard had a 70 foot oak tree that was leaning over the house. Some of the branches fell during hurricane Rita and put a hole in the roof. IT HAD TO GO!

There's a great storage shed that opens/closes with sliders that look like it's just a fence in the courtyard. We'll be putting new doors on it soon.

After tree removal we were left with TONS and TONS of shredded bark from the stump grinder. We shared it with friends, who used it in their landscape beds. THANK YOU FRIENDS!

A small red crepe myrtle tree was planted in place of the oak. We can keep it sized and the blooms are so pretty.

When the time was right I went to work on the landscape. I lifted up each rock, carried it off, and leveled out the space. (oh my aching back!)

I brought back each rock and then created a rectangular bed with smaller rocks for some plants. I then filled in between the large stepping stones with crushed granite.

Because of the large stump left under the ground from that huge oak tree I wasn't able to plant things I had planned. One side of the flower bed turned into a rock garden because of it. It's colorful, anyway.

One more plant will do the trick.

The winter was harsh and it took out just about all of my plants from last spring except for the tree. So I had to redesign the bed and plant things that I knew would make it and be simple to keep up with.

A nice view just before it gets dark. The house all lit up in the evening is beautiful.
