The Seven Best Home Renovation Blogs

posted on

I’ve been keeping this a secret for a couple weeks but I’m super thrilled to share it with you because… well… it’s just so nice when someone contacts you and enjoys what you’re doing and finds your blog and the content something worth sharing.  I’m so pleased!

It started with an email form MSN’s glow.com.  Let me just say that I get a lot of emails through my contact page that quickly get deleted.  This particular email seemed “real” and the person writing it seemed legit and very lovely (you know… you just get that feeling) and for some reason I ….

Office Work

posted on

It’s time to get back on track with my postings here. My whole reason for starting this blog was to keep a “journal”, if you will, of all the projects we complete big or small. Having a record of all the work we’ve done over the past 4 years is incredibly motivating to us… and it helps us realize how grateful we are to have this opportunity and just how far we’ve come. Unfortunately I have NOT been keeping up well with things and that makes it ten times more difficult to get going again. I’m just going to START ….

Blog Surprise

posted on

A quick little post just because I’ve been away from the blog world and the internet in general.  Strange thing about that is when you come back you get sweet surprises!  I love surprises!

A quick visit to the Modernica blog recently led me to this:

It seems that on May 28th A Goode House was featured on the Modernica blog.  How nice is that!
I thought so, anyway.  Thanks Modernica… for the shout out and the lovely items you provide for modern home owners.

It’s unfortunate that the pictures kinda suck but that’s totally my fault.  I should definitely update
the ….

Workout Room Updates

posted on

Just a quick update and a photo dump from my camera, as I do great when it comes to taking pictures of our progress but not so great at actually doing anything with them.
Since I haven’t updated in weeks, I’m long overdue.  I’ll explain what’s been going on in my life the last few weeks in another post… but I’m too tired to even go there.  More on that later.

I did get the storage cabinet painted and the door to match.  I decided to leave a stained wood trim around the edge so the sliders could move more easily.  Paint ….

Please Fence Me In

posted on

It’s been really quiet here on the blog… but in real life it’s been anything BUT!  I don’t know about everyone else but spring is my favorite season and I find myself full of energy, motivation and in general the happiest of happy!  Take note of the beautiful skies in these pictures.  We had days and days of this with temps in the 70’s.  It was heaven!

Thanks to daylight savings time and Richie getting a week out of school for spring break we have accomplished some pretty good stuff in the last 10 days.  Of course I’m covered in scrapes, ….

Staying on Track

posted on

We’re definitely staying on “track” in the back of the house as I continue to work on sheetrock, painting, and now installing the new track lighting that arrived recently.  The lighting in this space has been a long time coming… like so many things in this house.  Richie rewired this area allowing us to put lighting down the supporting beams of each room.  He also replaced all the outlets and switches.  I have a thing for white outlets.  They can’t be off white, or tan, or “ivory”.  They must be white.  It’s just a thing with me.  THANK ….

Designer: Poul Kjaerholm

Time to take a break from “working out” and talk about the things that make our homes special. Whether you’re mid-century or traditional, all of us love to fill our homes with beautiful FURNITURE!
Some of it we collect from estate sales, buy on a whim, get handed down from grandma or pick up off the side of the road.  Putting a home together should be fun and for me it has and does take years.  I love the look of a home that has morphed over many years of collecting over a home that gets decorated in a weekend from ….

Planters, Lighting, Fans and Floors

posted on

I hesitated to do this post, as I feel like I’m a broken record stuck on that part of the song that drives you crazy.  Don’t worry, I too am wishing I could move the needle to another part of the record and get over it!  (for those of you who don’t remember vinyl… sorry.)

The thing is I really try hard to start a project and stick to it until it’s done.    Inch by inch, post by post, I am still “working it out”.  Last weekend was a bust and I didn’t get a chance to do much in ….

The Great Wall of TROUBLE

posted on

There’s The Great Wall of China, and The Wall in Manhattan…. the Lennon Wall in Prague and Pink Floyd’s THE WALL…. but our wall is not the kind to be celebrated, and I’m pretty sure it won’t attract tourists. One thing I am sure of is that it’s been nothing but trouble.  After three years of waiting we finally conquered this hideous beast.  Lets look back and see what all the fuss was about.

I’m still in my workout room but we are making progress each week.  Richie and I have about a day and a half each week to work on the house ….

A Workout

posted on

It’s been so nice taking a much needed break from renovation work.  The holidays were very restful and Richie and I enjoyed our weeks off.  I’ve decided that I really would love to be a “stay-at-home” chick!  I won’t go into all of it because… well… it’s freakin’ OVER and without coming off as a grouch I’m happy it is.  The holidays stress us out and we are always happy to get through it.  (I know, I know.. cranky ass!)

With three weeks off during the holidays I found myself getting pretty bored near the end.  I’m use to going ….

Christmas Card Cheater

posted on

I cheated this year!  I don’t even feel bad about it.

Every year I enjoy making Christmas cards for friends and family.  It always gets me in the Christmas spirit.  Last year I did some ribbon trees and sewed them to colored card stock.  This year will be no exception… but I’m running out of time.  With over 50 cards to make…. I’ll have to cheat to get it done.

I’m not a traditional girl… I think that’s pretty obvious.  Although I love traditional reds and greens during the holiday season I tend to always want the opposite.  Doesn’t black, ….

Love Christmas – hate to decorate!

posted on

The other night Richie and I got into this great conversation about Christmas’ past.  He had me rolling with laughter telling story after story.  It was the kind of laughter that makes your cheeks sore and your back hurt.  He’s great at making fun of me.  It’s the sweetest thing EVER!

He reminded me of our first Christmas together when we didn’t have a pot to piss in. NO MONEY for a christmas tree.  Are you kidding… we had to eat.  My dad wanted me to have a tree so he bought me a gift certificate to go pick one ….

+ Design Cross +

posted on

Have you ever run across a design trend that just knocks you over and you don’t know why? Then it just sticks with you no matter how much you resist being “trendy” and you can’t let go? It has definitely happened to me and I’ve been fighting it for over a year now. I decided to just give in and get over it…. and apparently that is SO MUCH MORE FUN!

I’m talking about this whole design cross trend. Or maybe it’s called Swiss Army or Swiss, or Red Cross or what I like to call design cross. Lets face it, ….

Parallel Bar – Our Knoll Sofa

posted on

Well hello!  I’m Stacey, it’s nice to be here.  Glad you came to visit… I almost forgot I even had a blog it’s been so long since I put my hands on the keyboard or unloaded my camera pics.  Ah, life… it’s good… it’s busy and it’s been whipping my butt!  Speaking of butt… I thought I’d do a post on one of my favorite spots to park mine.  Our Knoll sofa.

Thanks to the many visitors/friends I’ve made over the last 2 years, I get lots of emails and comments about not only our home and the renovation, but ….

Nice Legs!

posted on

When something doesn’t go the way you planned… just put some hair-pin legs on it… and everything is alright! Nothing beats a nice pair of legs, right? Long, short, skinny, thick… metal, wood, or concrete…. there are so many kinds to love. Of course I’m talking about furniture and particularly the little tables we planned for our bed side.

These pretty legs arrived a week ago after I realized the little “box” tables that Richie built for our last platform bed would not work in our new master bedroom. The tables are suppose to hang and “float” on the wall but ….
