Pinched, Framed and Purple Matsumoto

posted on

I’m sure you’re starting to think this is becoming a floral blog with all these weekly posts about the fresh flowers I bring home.  I swear to you I have not lost my mind… but I have certainly lost my ability to walk, bend over, stand for too long, sit for too long, or even feel my left foot.  So all I can really do is stare at flowers all day.  Which has been a comforting part of my otherwise painful week. (month, … I mean 6 weeks)

I’m not a bitcher or complainer but I’m telling you I’ve never ….

Wood Accents

posted on

We’re piddling here at The Goode House.  Yes, it’s back to school, end of summer, schedule changes and a shift toward the fall.  It’s been HOT and we’re tired.  I think by the end of August everyone is worn out, no matter where you live.   Which makes this the perfect time to do little things.  Fun things.

Back in January Richie and I went to see Neutral Milk Hotel in concert.  He came home with a t-shirt but I wanted the poster.  I knew it would look so good all framed up but I also knew that there ….

Office Details – After Midnight

posted on

The work continues in our little office and I’m starting to see the finish line.   Although there are still many OFFICE posts to come and lots left to do… here’s some record keeping.

Over the weekend I decided to focus in on some little things that required some creativity.  Most of it I come up with around midnight when I’m trying to settle my brain down and get to sleep.  It rarely works because that’s usually the time I go crazy with thoughts regarding my next insane TIME SUCKING project.

So after many late night ideas this week I woke up ….

Christmas Card Cheater

posted on

I cheated this year!  I don’t even feel bad about it.

Every year I enjoy making Christmas cards for friends and family.  It always gets me in the Christmas spirit.  Last year I did some ribbon trees and sewed them to colored card stock.  This year will be no exception… but I’m running out of time.  With over 50 cards to make…. I’ll have to cheat to get it done.

I’m not a traditional girl… I think that’s pretty obvious.  Although I love traditional reds and greens during the holiday season I tend to always want the opposite.  Doesn’t black, ….

+ Design Cross +

posted on

Have you ever run across a design trend that just knocks you over and you don’t know why? Then it just sticks with you no matter how much you resist being “trendy” and you can’t let go? It has definitely happened to me and I’ve been fighting it for over a year now. I decided to just give in and get over it…. and apparently that is SO MUCH MORE FUN!

I’m talking about this whole design cross trend. Or maybe it’s called Swiss Army or Swiss, or Red Cross or what I like to call design cross. Lets face it, ….

King Sized!

posted on

After lots of work and a failed attempt at making our king sized platform bed for the master bedroom I’m happy to say “roll over and stay on your side”….. IT’S DONE!  Well, almost… I still need a mattress (minor detail).

Poor Richie… check out the sweat drip coming off his nose in the 100 degree weather. Wonderful husband!!

Boy does it feel good to say “it’s done”.   I know Richie just about had a heart attack when I told him I wasn’t happy with our first attempt at making this bed.  If you read a recent post that we ….

DIY: silkscreen

posted on

It’s been a busy week at my day job, and I found myself brain dead by the end of each day. Hours and hours of starting at a computer screen writing code for an upcoming event that required online ticket sales and tons of graphics just about drained all my creative juices. I was determined to take advantage of this 3-day weekend and not only relax but try something I’ve been dying to try… silkscreening. I really want to silkscreen some fabric for our bedroom project… maybe some pillows, curtains, anything. Something that is mine, not bought, and made by ….

This weeks finds

posted on

I’ve been a little too quiet this week…sorry. My “real job” is sucking the life out of me and taking me away from the fun stuff I enjoy. I always try to make time for the fun stuff, rest assured! So I thought I’d do a quick little update on some cool things Richie found this week. He always manages to come home with something, even if it’s small enough to fit in his hand… there’s always a little something.

Richie has many talents. One of course is renovation, the other is his musical abilities, another is his annoying ability to ….

Yarn-It!

posted on

I have nothing but complaints lately so I haven’t posted anything. It’s been a rough few days and I feel like I’m moving in slow motion. So I’ve decided to just breathe deep and tell you about it later… but for now I’ll share some pictures of a few fun things I did last week. Come on… it’s better than complaining. And just think, you’ll have that to look forward to.

When I’m feeling stressed it’s better for me to just sit down and do mindless things. I needed to do that.. and quick! So I pulled out some rolls of ….

Ding dong goes the cowbell

posted on

Hello, hello, is anybody home? I’m sure that’s how most people feel when the come to our house. It’s like Fort Knox thanks to all the fences and courtyards that surround our house of glass. Sometimes I love it and sometimes it worries me that people might need to “get to us” but can’t. When the gates are open it’s still a mystery to some because this house is so unique and special they can’t figure out that this….. is the door bell.

It’s a small piece of wood (carved by my husband) and attached to a string that runs through ….

useful and beautiful?

posted on

My weekend is for big home projects and weekdays are for obsessing over the little things. I’ve seen this quote just about all my adult life and always think “Yes, that’s how I feel”. It has helped me to not keep every little thing just because I have it.  If it’s not useful or beautiful or sometimes both then I’ll have to try something else.

My little pea brain just cant understand why some of the things we use and are surrounded by everyday have to be so damn ugly. (don’t get me started on telephone ….

a day to appreciate them

posted on

Yes, the dreaded Valentine’s day is tomorrow and to be honest I feel sorry for most men. I see the sheer panic in their eyes and the anxiety that comes over them as the day approaches. I think it’s too much. It’s that very reason that for most of our relationship I ask that Richie not participate in it. No flowers, no candy, (maybe a card if you just feel like it) but otherwise…. lets not go there. It works out great for us but in many ways I think the day can be fun and stress free. It can ….

painted rocks

posted on

I had a choice last night…..  I could sit in front of the TV and hunt alligators with my husband, (yes, he thinks he could be a “swamp person”), or I could do something creative and fun with my time. I decided that listening to music and painting would be a much better choice for me. So I did some necessary painting and some “not so necessary” painting. I bet you can guess which one I liked most!

I put my second coat of white paint on one side of the closet shelves so they’ll get good and dry overnight and ….

Feels like Monday

posted on

… and it certainly looks like a Monday back at work. YIKES! My desk is exploding with papers. (thank goodness it’s Tuesday… that gives me a short week!)

Sometimes I feel like I can’t escape the messes. Mess at home… mess at work… and my poor little car hasn’t been washed in months. I know, I know, it’s just a time in life that you “get through”. Change is certain and I always tell myself when I feel overwhelmed, “Will this matter in 5 years”. NO! I’m just whining today. ….

Christmas spirit

posted on

I’ve had some fun the last couple of days just hanging around the house and adding a little christmas sparkle all around. Being that it’s such a modern home, traditional Christmas decorations don’t ever make sense to me. I find myself wanting something completely different and unexpected. I think that’s why we love this place so much. It seems to beg for you to think outside the box and GET CREATIVE!

There’s no way I could put just any wreath on the front of this house. So I decided to make my own “sunburst” wreath using craft sticks, jute string, washers ….
