How does your garden grow?

Ours seems to be kickin’ it! We planted our tomatoes a couple of weeks ago and they’re really showing off. I forgot to take a picture when we planted them but they were about an inch and a half tall. The grape tomatoes seem to have super powers. They’re the biggest and already have little ‘maters on them. I love having a big bowl of grape tomatoes on the counter for snacks in the summer time. DELICIOUS!

We have always planted a garden and we love the idea of walking out and picking fresh food right outside our door… but really ….

Oatmeal is good for you

At least that’s the excuse for making a sweet treat for us yesterday. Yes, yes, I need to lower my cholesterol… with butter, sugar, and of course oatmeal. HA HA! Lets just say both of us have a sweet tooth from hell… but Richie is the WORST! I decided to just make something instead of him bringing home cookies, candybars, getting DQ malts, or killing me with freshly baked donuts. He’s not easy to be around. At least as far as sweets are concerned.

collard greens and corn bread

yep, you heard me… collard greens… the color of Christmas and envy (which you should never be!) AND some beautiful purple turnips to go with it!

It’s been such a great day today and Richie and I worked in the yard most of the day raking leaves, trimming plants and bushes, and cutting back some small trees. I couldn’t resist taking a picture of these beautiful tomatoes from our garden. Trust me… there’s no tomato like this in the grocery store! It just doesn’t get any better. I cut one for my lunch today and each bite was like heaven. They’re so darn DELICIOUS! And pretty too. We love to share. Let me know if you want a few! Have a good day…. and a tomato too.

First Pick

This morning we were working in the garden and saw so many beans ready to be picked. We’ve never grown green beans before and I really love them so I was SUPER excited to pick some. Richie came in with a whole handful perfect for dinner tonight. Ahhhh, fresh green beans with no pesticides.. grown in our own backyard.   Later Richie’s parents stopped by and brought us cucumbers, new potatoes, and yellow squash from their garden. When the weather gets this warm it’s all I want to eat…. fruits and veggies.
