Begging for Dollars

Stacey on air

As much as I love working on my house and blogging about the projects sometimes real life gets in the way and it seems impossible to get anything posted.  A sweet friend recently told me “I miss you” and it occurred to me just how long it had been.

I wish that I could tell you I’m in the Caribbean kicked back in a beach chair sipping something fruity with an umbrella in it but I’m really parked in front of a microphone begging for money.  I say begging because it sometimes feels that way but really it’s more like “convincing” or “pointing out the obvious” reasons why people should do it.

I work for an NPR affiliate radio station and this is my REAL job.  This is what keeps me busy most of my days and when there’s a gap on the blog… rest assure it’s real life sneaking in. If you’re familiar with public radio (or PBS television for that matter) then you know ALL ABOUT those annoying little fundraisers where they interrupt your programming and ask you for money.  Hello, I’m that annoying person.  That’s my job.  And quite frankly it’s the most fun job EVER!

So this is what’s keeping me from renovation progress at the moment, but that’s not to say I haven’t accomplished anything.  Small things are getting done and I hope to report back soon.
Hang in there with me.  I’m still here, just busy doing something else that … I honestly love.

NO COMMERCIALS! NO MERCY!!

Thanks Dana! I have lots of fun at work and I rarely show that part of my life. Thanks for always being so sweet and supportive.

YAY for NPR listeners!! Trust me when I say that it most definitely is a necessity and my co-workers and I have LOTS of fun on on the air. It’s never boring. We laugh and cut up and keep it entertaining.
I can’t lie though… the minute it starts, I’m ready for it to end. It’s grueling trying to talk for ten minutes straight every fifteen minutes. How many ways can you say THE SAME THING! (HELP!)
Thanks for letting me share that part of my life. It’s a big part so I hope it’s okay.

How sweet! I NEED A SERIOUS hair cut. I’m way too old to be having such long hair. Thank you, though. Love ya!

Hey Friend! I knew you would get this. MAN, I can’t believe how time flies. There are so many different “sections” of my life that are so fun that you just have to experience them, live in the moment, and forget about the rest.
I get cranky when I can’t post, though. I guess every blogger does. :-)

Thank you SO MUCH for noticing the “tweaks”. I’m always working on other people’s sites and never implementing the things I want to do, so I’ve been little by little setting aside time in the evenings to “CODE BUST” and make some changes. I enjoy working with a child theme because you can do so much more with your site. It’s been fun! Thanks, Danielle.

Eric and I always listen to NPR (KPLU from Tacoma) during the day when we work from home (he always works from home; I get to sometimes), so I appreciate what you do! I’ve also been noticing the changes to your blog layout. Nice work! I like your new banner and the revolving photo band. A nice, clean design that represents your modern house!

Hey D’Arcy! Happy to hear you’re a listener. I like to think of “us” as a station that keeps you company… so its perfect for people who work from home. YAY!
I’m still changing little things here and there. I get bored with it so easy and just have to change something. Thanks for noticing!

Another cheer for NPR from over here! I actually listen mostly to a college station, WFUV Fordham Radio, and I heart fundraiser weeks – the DJs sound like they’re having a lot of fun and we listeners get to know them more. Word has it they have a lot of good food delivered for the volunteers and DJs…Sounds like you are doing great work both inside and outside of your home Stacey!

Hip Hip Horray! Fordham has a great station. A co-worker and I often listen during our work day. We scan all kinds of stations. Lucky you! We do try to have fun and sometimes I get so cracked up I can’t quit laughing and speak. I’m a giggler! Today a volunteer brought up her homemade “gluten free” cookies. Ummmmm…. I’m the only one that ate them. But local bakeries bring us all kinds of sugary treats. It’s not a good time for my hips! I know you guys love good music. Glad you listen.

Glad you are doing well and anxiously anticipating the blog posts that are to come. Swim season is nearing for me, and I am already trying to figure out how I am going to keep working on projects and blogging. I love working with the kids outside the classroom, but it is hard to give up that much personal time.

Swim Season! How fun. Are you a coach? I probably wouldn’t have trouble doing both but my hours are nuts and I even have to work weekends so by the time I get home it’s dinner and chores and no time for any blogging fun. Oh well, it’s only a few weeks of craziness but I do miss that creative outlet. Thanks, Jessica!

Funny to read this as I’m listening to my local NPR station KWMU St. Louis) doing the same thing. I always laugh at the things they ramble on about – they must bring a little post it note with ten minute topic ideas each morning. My mind would go completely blank, I’m sure. Just when the fund drive starts to wear on me, they play a funny Ira Glass bit, and I get over it.

I’m a faithful contributor. Good luck on your fund drive.

Hi Kristin! OH HOW GREAT! Yes, I guess many stations are probably doing the same this time of year. I love listening to other stations do it. It’s not an easy thing. We really “wing it” during breaks and there are no scripts at all. I think we tried that and it always ends up sounding so dry. We just go for it and something funny always happens.

And YES, my mind has gone completely blank MANY TIMES! Thank goodness for quick co-workers who see the look of horror on my face. HELP ME! It’s fun, though. Especially when we finally reach the goal.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Wonderful to hear from you. Thanks for contributing to your station. They love you for it!
