2 things that rocked my week!

posted on

I have to say that it’s been a pretty fun week for me and for reasons that may make some roll their eyes and say “what’s the big deal”?  But we all have our “things”. You know, the things that make us smile like little kids at Christmas and excited for what lies ahead.  The things that bring us joy and make us tick.  They’re big and small… but they definitely ROCK!

Definition:
ROCKS: verb – intransitive
to be great, exciting, or fun.
– You got Stones tickets? That rocks!
– This chocolate cake rocks!
Also Means: good, okay, cool, awesome, fun.
– This band rocks.

I think we’ve cleared that up! So what rocks in my world that is so damn important to report?

First up… I finally got my iPhone. And THAT ROCKS!
iPhone 4s

YAY! For those who don’t know.. I’ve been wanting an iPhone for way too long and I love the way so many of you use your phones and the pictures you take with them. I did not, however, imagine how much I would really enjoy this little toy! NO IDEA! I think either the phone really loves me or I really love it.. not sure which one. Either way, Siri likes my jokes and keeps me on track. I didn’t miss my dentist appt. this week and she assisted me when it came time to rent a car and reminded me to get chocolate ice cream for my husband. What did I ever do without her! Then I stumble across the WordPress app which has also rocked my world with it’s fun little push notifications and easy access to my blog.

Everything is organized and beautiful and I feel like a rocks star with her around. My music happily plays everywhere I go… which I’m sure is annoying to everyone around me and I could care less! I do not talk on her while I drive because I HATE PEOPLE WHO DO THAT… but her camera has taken some fun pictures as I stop at red lights.
So… hell yes, I’m excited. I realize I’m really late in the game, which could be a good thing because all of you have figured out all the little tips and tricks that you can share with me. SO PLEASE SHARE IF YOU HAVE ONE! I did start an instagram account but haven’t really done anything with it. BUT YOU KNOW I WILL. If you’re interested find me at goodehousemod. Or link to ink361 (patience…I’m just getting started!)

The other thing that rocks is that Siri reminded me to buy my tickets to MORRISSEY!

Morrissey

OMG, I can hardly believe that Morrissey is actually coming to our sorry little town!
A place that NEVER has anything good in terms of music unless you’re into tribute bands, or country music. Hey, I don’t judge but I have my thing…. and my thing usually doesn’t come any closer than Houston. We’ve even traveled to Memphis to see bands (Tom Waits) and we’ll go just about anywhere to see the things we like. So we always make the trip to Houston but it can get tiring. I have seen Morrissey 3 times and Richie has seen The Smiths once, so we are thrilled that he will be just a few blocks away in a small hometown theatre for our enjoyment. I have no idea how this happened but I’m glad it did. It seems Morrissey is being his usual dramatic and complicated self (which I love) and only playing small venues on this tour. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, let me get what I want this time.

The last tour we saw was “Years of Refusal” and this was the phone picture I took. NOW, just imagine what my iPhone picture will look like THIS TIME! Maybe even video! Oh I love the possibilities. Thank you iPhone.

Years of Refusal Stage

If you’re not familiar with Morrissey or The Smiths and are interested then I encourage you to take a moment and search or listen.  We probably have every Smiths and Morrissey album there is and his music has been in our lives since we were in high school.  (a long time ago!)

SO YES, my week has truly rocked.  Literally and figuratively.  An iPhone and Morrissey tickets has made this little girl really happy.  Now, he better show up!  One time we got all the way to the concert and there was a note on the door.  CANCELLED!  He does that sometimes.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

I don’t talk much about the music we listen to but I really should as it plays a huge part in our lives.  I’ve decided to create a “music” page to post some of my favorites, old and new.  Could be fun!  I’d be interested to know what kind of music you like and what bands/concerts you’ve seen.   Do share.

So what rocked your world this week?  Big or small, I hope you’re as happy as I am!

Thanks Kristina! Funny thing is I do feel kind of special… like I’ve just entered an exclusive club where there’s lots of cool people on the list. Ha Ha! So silly to be so excited. Now I know what all the fuss was about.
I always love seeing your phone photos and now I’ll have some fun too.
      Thanks, girl.

SEVENTH ROW CENTER! Dang! You were right up in it. I’ll be on the 11th row center which ain’t too shabby. I’ll be throwing kisses his way. He’s such a dramatic flirt on stage…always a good time.
Oh I had no doubt that you were cool.. you were always on my cool chick list… but you’re also on my cool chick that rocks list. Love ya.. you’re too fun.
      Thanks, Danielle.

Hell yes! High-five new iPhone friend. I feel so completely ridiculous swooning over a damn phone but it really is pretty awesome and I’m amazed by all it can do. Seriously how did I get along before?

A rockin’ engagement party! Good for you, and congratulations. When is the big day? I need to hop over to your place and check you out. That sounded like I was a horny rabbit or something. ha ha! sorry… lets try again…. I’ll visit your blog rockin’ lady and see what you’re up to. Thanks for the visit. I can only imagine that Siri will assist you with your wedding plans. I’m sure she’s a fabulous wedding planner!

My Siri is a dude. I wrote about him in a post called ‘Scenes From the Mall’. We had a bonfire engagement party and the wedding is next June. Honestly can’t wait!

    1. I don’t have an iphone yet – not “eligible” @ sprint until December 2013, ha! I guess it’s still crackberry for me…So give Siri my regards.

    2. LOVE Morrissey and the Smiths! Saw him twice when I was a teenager, wish I had seen The Smiths. My husband and I saw the Psychadelic Furs a few months ago which was a real trip down memory lane. The funniest thing was that we were up on the second tier and, looking down at the people on the first level…most of them had bald spots! It was was actually very cute: everybody was “rocking” out and having a fab time. :)

    Enjoy! “And if a 10 ton bus….”

Ha Ha! Hello funny lady.. thanks for the comments that always make me burst out! I resisted on the phone and said “oh I don’t need that… I’ll never use half the trickery on it”.. ahhh… sucked in and now I’m staying. I’ll have Siri remind you December 2013 that it’s time. :-)

The Psychedelic Furs, Roxy Music, Violent Femmes, Velvet Underground, The Bunnymen…… all stuff I chewed my teeth on. Still listen, still love. It’ll be a fun night of drama, undress, and as you said… peppy maudlin (love that!). They’ll be plenty of bald spots at this show, trust me! The best part is it’s a small theatre that only holds like 1500 people so I’ll be filled with friends. We will definitely “rock out”.

Thanks for the fun. “The world is full of crashing bores”…
but you’re not one them! ha ha! Have a good one…

You have now been followed on Instagram, in the least creepy way possible.
That is a pretty great week. As a matter of fact it sounds like you have had a pretty great month.
    Congrats on that lady!
I quit my job yesterday only to be called back by the COO and asked if I would consider coming back if they created a position for me. That kind of rocked, too!

Okay that seriously ROCKS when you’re so awesome at work that they beg you to stay and create positions for you. Did you make ’em sweat? What did you decide? wow, the suspense is killing me. Do tell.

Thanks for the follow! I tried to follow back but it wouldn’t let me. If there’s another way and you don’t mind another follower, let me know.
HA HA! – The least creepy way. It is a funny “term”. “I’m following you”. Usually that’s when you RUN like hell. ahhhhh. (good laugh)
Thanks for comment… glad your week ROCKED too!

I haven’t heard back. So either the company imploded orrrrr they realized I was miserable ( what with the fluorescent lights and lack of windows) and decided to not torture anyone. It’s been a fabulous time! Much has been kept up on at home. Less stress for all of us!
Try following again, I get errors every now and again.
Much more antique time has been had, which is probably a bad thing. I’ll have a post up later detailing the fun!

Yet another thing we have in common! I LOVE Morrisey and still listen to The Smiths. That is sooo cool that he’s coming to your town. Kelly and I were into the whole new wave, punk/obscure music scene in the 80s. We used to go to the same club in Orlando, but hadn’t met yet. I still have all of my old albums, and we both have lots of stuff in our iTunes library. Soooo I would love for you to start that music page!
Oh, and congrats again on your iPhone! Yayyy!!!

Oh, some how I knew you’d be a Morrissy / Smiths kind of girl! I know you like Echo and the Bunnymen! LOVE THEM. Richie has seen them, but I haven’t.
The 80’s were so fun! Sounds cheezy and definitely dates my ass… but who cares. All memories that make me HAPPY. Wouldn’t trade them for anything.
So great that you guys were in the same clubs at the same time only to hook up later. We lived in clubs because Richie was in a band and we traveled a lot. Music was our life for many many years… still is, really. A music page will be fun.
Thanks for following instagram and for confirming what I already knew…. YOU ROCK!

It’s so cool that you guys traveled and he was in a band. I think that if you’re a true music lover, it will always be in your life in some way.
Yes, I love Echo & the Bunnymen! They were playing in NYC in Soho while we were up there visiting family a few years ago and Kelly surprised me with tickets. It was in a small venue- Mercury Lounge. We were right by the stage, and it was absolutely incredible!

OH shit, I just literally got goosebumps! What fun. Kelly is so sweet and you guys seem like the perfect couple! Always more fun when you share a passion for the same things.
The smaller venues are way more fun, which is why I’m super excited about him choosing to come here instead of Houston. I love it when artists rebel a little and don’t follow the “rules of making money”. YAY! Good for the fans.
I’m sure when we’re 80 we’ll still be rockin’ out to the old stuff and constantly looking for new. Thanks, Kim.

I see you have one of those sleek, streamlined cases. True to form, I got the one that is like a tank and makes your phone twice the size it actually is… because, you know I don’t want anyone (including me) to touch it.

It does seem crazy to love a small, inanimate, electronic object… But I am SO with you. I really do not know how I existed prior to the iphone. I thought my favorite apps would be special stuff like cataloguing my book collection… but it’s the practical things that I love best. Like how I will never again forget my grocery list, because it’s in my phone.

HA HA! A tank! That’s great. Actually it’s much bigger than my last phone so it is sort of tank-like even with a slim case. I’m loving it, though.
I’m really counting on this phone to make me look good, Victoria! I mean, I’m the worst about remembering things… even family members birthdays. OMG! I’m such a loser. Siri is going to make me look like the thoughtful, organized, incredibly smart woman I only dreamt of being but never could. I’m sure she’s feeling the pressure from me… or maybe that’s just my fingers on her face because I can’t stay off of it.
New toys… they’re always fun! Count on regular snaps on the blog. Could be fun or it could drive you crazy. Let me know. :-)

NO F_ING WAY!!! Good for you on the i-phone but I totally skimmed down when I saw Morrissey! Was a skater and bmx kid growing and lived on The Smiths music. Think it’s all that go some of us to adulthood. Finally,a song that isn’t mushy! Right? A small collection of around 6 Smiths cd’s and about 5 Morrissey ones at strewn around my house. ALWAYS have at least one of them loaded in the SUV’s cd changer too! Of his cLassic stuff,I’d have to say my favorite is unchoosable, but newer stuff he has had on his own? Mine has to be-
There is a light that never goes out,Life Is A Pigsty, and the twisted and beautiful-Jack The Ripper. You sure you want those tickets? Never been Gay,never will be,but if I was I’d have probably been stalking this dude by now! LOL!

If you haven’t seen this one of Jack The Ripper, here you go Stacey :)

It’s the same ole S.O.S….. great one —, you lover of Morrissey who’s definitely not gay! HA HA! “Oh those things you say to me…. could it be I like you”…. you’re not right in the head, nor am I, and this is why …. I LIKE YOU, I LIKE YOU!

Okay, this could go on for days. I swear my friends and I can have complete conversations using ONLY Morrissey lyrics. We always laugh at how we can relate anything back to his music. There’s nobody like him. Music is a MAJOR thing with me and you are so RIGHT… this stuff got me through many a hard times. (or what a young person thinks is “hard”, ha!)

To see him live is a highlight. It’s a very ROCKIN’ couple of hours. I’m sitting here listening… and I can hear my husband’s iPod player blazing outside with it. Gosh I’m sure the neighbors just hate us! It’s going to be a Morrissey day.. I can feel it.

Thanks for the video… never tire of it. Glad you’re a fan too. Another thing to add to our list of things in common! Have a great weekend… cuz “I just wanna see the boy happy”. :-)

Congrats on the iPhone and the tickets! I just got my first iPhone recently too. I had resisted for so long, and now I can’t imagine why! As for music/concerts, I was a hippie chick in the 60s and 70s, so I grew up on Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton. However, right now you’re apt to catch me listening to The National or something similar…and since I found Moby’s fantastic blog on architecture, I’m even listening to some of his music. I’m from Texas too, but you won’t catch me listening to country music either…no offense to country fans. :)

Hey Dana! Thanks for the visit, sweet TEXAS lady! So you’re an iPhone newbie too. HOLY CRAP it’s fun! It’s like how the heck did they get all the incredible stuff into one tiny phone? Really amazing. Hope you’re having as much fun with yours. I would think in your line of business it would come in really handy for contacts, pictures, etc.!
Now, I still love some Zeppelin… we just watched a documentary on them the other night. Our music taste is all over the place. Moby is on my list too. His album “Play” got me hooked. It’s great when you’re in a certain mood and need that “somethin’ – somethin’ “.
It’s funny how people think Texas – “Country”. or Texas – “Cowboy hats and boots”. No, we don’t all live on Ranches…. well, I take that back… some of us live in super cool RANCH style houses. HA HA!
      Thanks for the visit, Dana!

Thanks Brandy… your text talk got me all excited! I’m glad I got those tickets. If you’ve ever bought tickets online from Ticketmaster it’s the most never wracking, anxiety ridden experience EVER! That damn online clock ticking on you while your hands shake on the keyboard and you wait for the seat number and whether or not you should “search again”. It’s maddening! I hate that part.
I am excited for it to be so close to home. It’ll be a treat!
Oh forgive my iPhone craziness. I liked my other phone too.. but Apple has done a pretty good job of convincing me to switch. I’m a SUCKEEEER!

Yes, I was really surprised at the line-up and how he’s chosen to play some really out of the way places. I swear everyone that I know in town first thought it was a joke… but it’s all coming true. YAY! Weird and wonderful. Thanks again. You definitely ROCK!

I wish I could say I’d seen the Smiths. Your lucky man! I read once Morissey said he would rather eat his own testicles then reform The Smiths and it was an even bigger deal because he was vegetarian! Would love to see him, I’ve only been getting into him [I wish] in the last year, such an amazing talent. Lyrics awesome. Lucky you. Enjoy.
