just gonna insta-fake-it

posted on

I admit, I’m a lover of the Instagram app available on iPhone. Unfortunately I do not currently own one but I’m working on changing that. I think I would have so much fun having a decent camera at my finger tips. There are so many moments when I’m wondering around town and think “if only”. Picture perfect moments pass me by. DANG!

It also doesn’t help that some of my favorite blogs in the past week have featured their Instagram pictures and I’m so JEALOUS! There’s just something about that filtered /vintage look that turns me on. Really that shouldn’t surprise me. I’m a lover of vintage…so I guess it makes perfect sense.

So until I get an iPhone, and until I get back on my refinishing project, and so I can get that sappy Mother’s day post off the front page… I decided to have some fun with some photos I’ve taken around the house and JUST FAKE IT! Yes, I thought about it and well… Photoshop should be able to do all that fun stuff… so I sat down and played with it. I think they turned out pretty good actually. (not exactly like …but close) So until I break down in the next few weeks and purchase something I really don’t need (but I want it!) this will satisfy my need for Instagram love.

Here’s some random house and atrium pictures.

Instagram Fake - House

Instagram Fakes- House Pictures

The only thing I accomplished and had the energy to do last Sunday was to replace some plants that weren’t doing well. I didn’t have any aloe vera and EVERY house should have a little of the magic gel. I admit once I start taking pictures I go crazy… so just bare with me and my stacey-grams!

Fake Instagram - Plants

I ran across my little funnel planter above on Pinterest.  Someone I don’t know pinned me. (weird) It’s just an old aluminum funnel (oh, I mean “vintage”) and I stuck the neck of it into the ground and planted some succulents.  My pencil plant is now actually a tree.  It’s over 8 feet tall!

Fake Instagrams - Atrium

That little spider surprised me!  I had no idea I captured it until I unloaded the camera.  GOTCHA!

Instagram Fake - Atrium Plants

My plants are all so happy and healthy. It’s not me..trust me. It’s the atrium and the lovely filtered light through the sun-sky roof panel. The plants LOVE it! But we can pretend it’s me.

Hi Stacey- I totally relate to your instagram woes…I too don’t have an iphone or an instagram account but I found this website that’s pretty cool and simple to use (and free) …you might want to check it out – it’s a little more fun than photoshop http://pixlr.com/o-matic/ (jeez this sounds like spam..ha, it’s not…and I swear I don’t work for them…just can relate)

    Anyway, love your house…it’s amazing!
    Thanks for sharing,
    Judy

Thanks Judy. I didn’t know anything about pixlr. I’ll check it out today. Yep, Photoshop is great but a pain in the butt sometimes. Another reason to convince myself I need an iPhone. HA H! Is that what you use for some of the great photos on your blog? If so, I’m there because I drool over yours. Thank you again… I’m excited to play with it!

I know I will have an iphone soon (just don’t want to pay for it…). I keep saying when the “new” one comes out. But, yes, try that site I use it all the time. It’s even great just for putting a border on a photo or doing subtle things. I’ve made prints from the images I’ve worked on too – super handy!

Ok Judy… you have just rocked my world with that little photo app. I went ahead and did the download and I’ve wasted a good hour of my day already. WHAT FUN! Thank you so, so much. Such a fun little freebie.
P.S. I’m still getting the iPhone. HA HA HA! Hope you do too.

Awesome. It seems like a waste but it’s less of a waste than most things….because you end up with something cool in the end. I’ll be getting an iphone too (I wish so much that we could just get them for the camera and skip all of the phone part of it.) Looking forward to your pics… have fun!

Thank you so much! There are times I regret getting into such a huge project but when I see it through the lens I appreciate it more and more. Weird how pictures do that. Glad you stopped by. How is the floor project going?

It’s looking much better, I will post pics up soon. Can’t wait to put all the furniture back in the room!

Everyone seems to love their iPhones and I’m like a little baby who wants one. wah, wah, wah! You’re right though. Who really NEEDS any of that stuff. But I bet it was a life saver on your trip. Lucky you. I loved looking at your Paris pictures. Someday I hope to go (sigh). Another excuse to get one…I may go to Paris some day. (giggle). Thanks for looking.

I love your pictures! Thanks for this cool peek! Have you ever checked out Pixlr? If you go to the site you get two options one is standard and the other is retro. I actually really like the retro site a lot so quick too!

Thanks Lindsey! Another follower also mentioned that so I’m definitely going to check it out. Photoshop is fun… but damn… it takes forever. Too many steps to achieve the look. So fast would be GREAT.

Lindsey, I did the download of Pixlr and I’m having so much fun. Love that little vintage quick pick option and the borders and effects, etc. OH NO, something else to eat up my time. (laughing) Thank you for telling me about it.

Yes! and it even connects up to my little web cam at the top of my computer. Such a neat little app. You’ve got me in trouble now.

If I don’t have 500 thing going on I don’t feel right. I guess I love torture! When I started my job, about 12 yrs ago, I was bored (STUPID ME! ) so I bought a book and learned how to write code and have been crazy about it every since. I’m not really good at anything… but love to try everything. I’m so inspired by people like you and so many others who do what they do. So thank you.
Photoshop is wonderful but it’s exhausting! There’s so much it can do that it’s brain overload. And so many ways to do the same thing. Honestly I just learn from “doing”.. and then try to remember how the heck I did “that”. HA HA!
Thank you for stopping by. I’m still thinking about that gorgeous house you posted and what I’d do with it. It is really cool.

Thanks Kristina! That beautiful photo (with the girl on the beach) you had on your blog yesterday kind of has
the feel that I so love. It triggered me to goof off at work and play with those photos. It was fun, anyway. Thanks for the sweet stuff. :-)

Stacey-grams… I love it!! Totally jealous of your mad Photoshop skills. I really need to learn how to use it. You have an amazing eye already and you will have sooooo much fun when you get Instagram.

What’s the story with the cool rock in your planter? Is it painted or etched? It’s really awesome!

Hey! Really with so many wonderful and easy to use photography apps it’s hard for me to even justify having Photoshop. If it weren’t for the website work I get I wouldn’t mess with it much. Here I am wanting a phone to do it for me. I’m pathetic! HA! I just love how you use yours and then created that fantastic collage. That REALLY made me want one.
The rock is just something I painted. I have some white ones I want to paint with black but haven’t gotten around to it. I was bored one night and painted a few. Post Here >> painted rocks. It was fun and addicting… kinda like that phone will be! (laughing). Glad you stopped by. Your studio space looks wonderful.

Ha! I have obviously not gotten an Iphone yet. I actually use a crappy Samsung for all my photo’s because I’ve yet to go pick up a decent camera. The pics turned out great as has your home and plants. I’ll say it again girl. Sooooooooooooo jealous ;)

I too have a Samsung!! I’ve taken a few pictures with it and they do pretty good. Once I got trapped in the parking lot of a Dunkin’ Donuts during a terrible flood and had to take pictures of the water coming toward me. I needed the proof, ya know. HA HA HA! Gotta love those cell phones. I always thought yours looked great.
Thanks for stopping by! I need to catch up with you, now!

Oh wow, thank you so much! Sweet comment. I’m a bit of a plant freak and my husband gets frustrated with me. He’s always saying “it’s too much, it’s too much”. But I don’t care… I feel exactly like you… it livens up the place and DOES make it more inviting.
Those strawberries you got growing at your place are GORGEOUS! Fresh berries… fresh anything, I guess, is better than the grocery store. Congrats on those!

Your house is beautiful! I would give anything for that atrium. I was definitely born without a green thumb, but am hoping my vegetable garden will survive this year :)

PS You’ll love instagram once you get that iPhone, but your pics look amazing without it!

Hey, thanks for the visit! The atrium is nice to have. It’s sort of private but yet feels like your’e outside. The cats love to hang out there. What are you growing in your garden?

Our yard came complete with quite a few planting boxes so I went all out this year. Three different types of tomatoes, thai basil, basil, parsley, bell peppers, jalapenos, and zucchini. I can’t wait til we can harvest!

Oh Wow! Thank you, Roger. Your post today really made me stop in my tracks and think about the whole mid-century, mid-century modern thing. I was surprised at how it affected me. Such a great happening in the middle of my busy day. Thanks again!
