Things are heating up!

Yes, there is a little more heat in the kitchen… my new oven is finally in place and my first gourmet side dish cooked in it was ……
(I know the suspense is killing you)….. FROZEN FRENCH FRIES! Man, were they good. Thankfully my sister was in need of a new oven and my old one went to her house. She’s was so excited, as her oven was so old it had “G.E. – A Division of General Motors” on it. It was avocado green. I know she’ll miss it. (yea, right.) So now we’re both happy.

I’ve made really good progress on the cabinets and all the doors and drawers on the base cabinets are done and in place. My new hardware arrived Friday and they scare the hell out of me. I’ve got to be damn sure I have them all marked perfectly before I drill a single hole in these beautiful cabinets. It’s a stressor, for sure.

Here’s what the pulls look like (minus my hand)….

The small boxes are up above the sink but require some touch ups, as it’s impossible to install something like that without marking it up and scratching the paint. It’s inevitable. Thanks to Jerry for putting up with us for one more afternoon and hanging these, after supervising the oven install. I needed my pro on hand to make sure things went smoothly. He’s the best. Richie and his dad did a super fine job with all the electrical needs for the new oven. I love all these handy men. :-)

I also got a really good start to the left side wall cabinets. Most of them are display with the bottom one for my microwave, so they were painted a bright white on the inside and I stained the outside frames. The doors and drawers were taken out and stained. Everything now has one coat of urethane but I’ve been putting two coats on everything so I still have some work to finish on that. (won’t take too long)

My goal is to be 98% done with the kitchen by Thanksgiving. There’s lots of little touch ups and clean up work that will have to happen and that’s time consuming and tedious but I’m going to work like a dog to make that goal. I envision a very peaceful, restful, thanksgiving holiday with a semi-clean house to enjoy. But you know how that goes….
