Ready, Set, Cabinets

posted on

My horrible headache started yesterday and I have a feeling it won’t subside until I get through this project. Lets hope I make it. The wonderful “Jerry” showed up yesterday to begin setting the cabinet boxes. Richie took the day off to play his handsome and capable assistant. I think they had a good time taking a break to look at old cars and cool tools at Jerry’s house. Richie learned a lot and when the day came to an end, they accomplished a lot.

My excitement and anxiety just won’t allow me to sit still so I snapped a few pictures of what they did yesterday.

I love the little drawer shown below that will allow me to store cookie sheets and tins. SO CUTE!

Richie helps Jerry to attach the facing

I didn’t even ask for this but Jerry read my mind. The small sliding storage for all that under-the-sink crap we all have. No reaching. It’s easy pull-out for me. Check out the little blue boxes above the cabinets. ELECTRICAL OUTLETS!
OMG, I’m so thrilled. Jerry cut the brick and channeled the electrical wire through it so now I’ll have two more outlets in the backsplash. He’s the MAN!

They get the island brought in and attach to the floor. It’s GOING NO WHERE!

Here’s the island with a few of the drawer boxes in. All the drawer boxes are built but he won’t complete the slab fronts until they’re all in, as I want a very specific look and each drawer and door has to have only 1/8″ gap in between. It will require special attention and detail so he’ll cut all those at once. (I’m such a pain in the ass!) He also built the box a little deeper than “standard” so he could fit more electrical box in the island at the back.

Here’s the back of the island (or the front.. whichever) The wood is so pretty I almost hate to stain it. There’s now three cut outs for electrical boxes. YIPEEE!

The painting continues. That end of the house is really starting to look brighter and happier!

We’re just getting started. There’s still a large recycling drawer, a cabinet and open shelves for the left of the stove and a cabinet over the refrigerator. Jerry wanted the big boxes in before everything else so I can get a finish on them and get those quartz tops on ASAP. So I guess I’ll definitely be getting a good start on that this weekend. Boy, it makes me nervous. But I really think I can do it. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I’ll post more as we accomplish more… but they’re so beautiful, and so sturdy, and I’m beyond happy. I’m thrilled.
